What made the Bhacas to be Great?

If we trace the early formation of this tribe, we find that they wanted: 1.Identity 2.Freedom 3.Land 4.Economically independence 5.Better Life. All what I mentioned is what we all want. Although it is very hard in our life time. Let's take the early King Madzikane. He strived for 1.Unity 2.Progress 3.Protection 4.Growth 5.Strong family units. That was made possible because of strong warriors, fully trained which achieved unity. The progress of unity was  critical important so that the tribe should be protected.Through taking  multi wives,he wanted his subjects should do the same. The strong family units where each member  had his/her own role in the family from the Senior Wife to Junior Wife where the boys and girls played their roles too

Bhaca Attire

The Bhaca Attire bore historical symbol and ancestral  lineage which include clan. Women wore apron  with beadwork. Usually  it was worn by unmarried  women.  We have an attire called Umbhaco found at Qhingeni. Under YouTube Saved  Makoti. You  will see an outfit it is called  Sunday Outfit. We have different outfits which fits the certain situations. It also meant certain  classification.  A King would  wear  a tiger handcuff  around the neck. On the shoulders of elders wore the tiny handcuff.Their faces were not covered. These clothes   indicated  a certain era, history, achievements as well as the duration of that particular kingdom.

Crime in KwaBhaca

The Population  increased in KwaBhaca. Unfortunately  there were no Jobs. Some People resorted to Crime. The recent killing of Gija  a Public  Figure, a Social Activist and a Businessman  is disturbing. There  are speculations. The  first  one is the  possibility  of underground  Comrades  of which the police must undercover  who  assisnated Gija. The Second one  are the Criminal Gangs called  extertionists ripe in Eastern  Cape of which so far the  Police do a good job around Umtata. We hope one day the Police  will find the  killers of Gija. However there  are Questions  which  we ask ourselves 1.Why did such a Crime did not exit? 2.50 years ago  people were  very  poor. There  was no Crime. 3.What made people  change  to Crime? Is it Media or Retired People who came fron other tribes?

Mt.Frere/KwaBhaca

I once visited  Mt.Frere  in 1990.By then it did not have industries. I don't know why it was called a town. What I found 1.Enormous  movements of People in all pavements. 2.The traffic  was very high. 3.The street vendors were allover. 4.Small shops  scattered allover. 5.Service Professionals and center like hospitals. 1.Enormous  Movements of People in all  the pavements When I looked  at those  People, they carried  bags, grain food, meat. 2.The Traffic was very high I saw trucks carried building materials, Food trucks, private vehicles especially  the vans. 3.The Street Vendor were allover Since Mt.Frere  was in the centre, it could be accessible  by different People with various types of transport. 4.Small Shops scattered  allover Small shops gave food, clothes  to the People. 5.Service Professional  It has a hospitals  with a Portrait  of King Madzikane  and Medical  Doctors

Why is their Lifespan is over 100 at KwaBhaca?

I visited KwaBhaca in 1990 to bury my father  who asked that we must transport  him when  he passed on.I learnt  some good lessons especially what kept them  healthy. 1.They eat the Natural  Food which they cultivated like pumpkins, vegetables minimum  starch, fresh  meat with no spices with  granular  salt. 2. Every member  of the family had his/her own responsibilities. From a 6 year family upwards. A 6 year  old child should  take care  of small stocks like chicken and pigs. The main responsibilities  are giving  those  animals food and water  twice  per day. The child must report the progress  daily. Usually, the parents will  be very if he/she does not get the report. 3. A 7-10 boy  should be a shepherd of not more than 10 battle/sheep and they should not be far away  from home. At least they must be  at "an eye" distance. 4.A 7-10 girl  should sweep inside and o...

Bhaca Isolation

I asked myself why the Bhacas at Eastern  Cape  were isolated  by the people who spoke their  language.I think their History may tell us. I was told by one elder  that  they moved from  South and acquired the Land. They fought fiercly to acquire  the Land. The  defeated People passed from generation  to generation. When Transkei got the fake indepence the Development Fund  did not reach the lands of Bhaca. When you move towards their places, you don't  find the clear  marked streets. Schools were built with mud. There  was no clinic. The Police station was found at Kokstad and later at Mt.Frere  which was supposed  to service more than 10.000 people. There were no jobs.Instead they created farming. The Youth underwent  Police  Training  like my father. So the youth had to help to keep cattle  and sheep farming where the women had to collect twigs from the nearby bush. The  water had ...

Life at KwaBhaca(Mt Frere)!

There are few Readers who visit this blog who are attracted by the Bhaca Life. I wrote  about  the  Bhaca wonderful  culture. When I was  young I asked  my father who was a Bhaca. What I remember was 1.Honesty 2.Speak your  mind 3.Healthy  Food 4.Believe in the tribe. Those  were the Pillars of Life Unfortunately  the Bhaca is a tribe which is severely undermined. They are given a low job, unless one  can save himself/herself  through education. 1.Honesty Honesty is being taught  whether you are  alone  seen unseen. 2.Speak your  Mind As long as you believe what you say is right and you can support  it with facts. 3.Healthy Food Fresh roasted  meat was of preference. 4.Believe in the tribe. My father  was helped by a  by his  Tribal Brothers  who found Job.

What kept Bhaca Tribe Together?

Every village had  meetings on Saturday  or Sundays. In those meeting the "state of the Village  was discussed,be village problems, prosperity and the future vision. Problems which were discussed. The Elders of the village would  like to get the opinons of their daily  livelihood  like Stockgrowing and the experienced, successful  person  would  be called  so that the household could learn. He will be  asked some intriguing  questions. The Boys in their different levels would discuss common issues from Home duties,Stock behaviour,Hunting in some cases fishing, herbal and how to travel to manhood including what makes a good young man not disgrace his family the Village and even his friends. Not to rape. How to Persevere when you are proposing Love to a girl. The Girls had their own gathering too. They discussed  how to please their mothers and senior sisters and junior sisters  too. The channel  of communication was fro...

Boy Preparation

Last time I discussed, how is the Girl prepared for adulthood. Now its boy preparation.  1.Fatherly  Preparation  A Young man is prepared to face the world This is done in a harder  way which includes harsh action. There was a believe that  if he could   overcome any obstacles in future. Usually they emphasize  on daily chores and that a good woman should: 1.Wake up early in the morning  when others  are still sleeping, sweep the yard and  fetch water from the River. 2.She must prepare  the breakfast for the Parents which includes cereals and tea. 3.Prepare water  for bathing for parents and the rest of the family. 4.Later in the day, she  may be taught how to plant and watering the vegetables. 5.Sometimes,she  may be send  to sell some of the corns, vegetables  or  encourage to make  her or  family vegetable store. 6.Alternatively  they were taught to make Grass Mats. Negotiations of Uniting the two Families

After the two  families have satisfied  they have satisfied  themselves  with their own criterion.then the negotiations  can start. Afterall there's  no perfect  family but the line of tolerance should be drawn. In any family  the extremes are controlled  and minimized. Sometimes, the couple does not listen their families. They decide to leave the village and get to another village. However there will  challenges. 1.There's  a possibility  that the couple will not have children. 2.One or even the couple may have a permanent disease. 3.The couple may not have peace. 4.The source  of Income may dry up where their business may vanish or not being hired  anywhere. 5.More  dark spirits in the family. 6.That can result to violent death to the one of the couple or both of them. When the families have negotiated  successfully, there are certain  benefits for the faimly: 1.The bride and groom  families  m...

Before Establishing a Family

As I mentioned  before in the boy family meeting the crucial  questions  and the suggestions  are enforced even it will mean a  breakway wouldn't  matter. What are the crucial questions? 1.The Girl Family  history How will  be the possible  relations with the Boy Family? Will this additional  family be toxic or not? Does this  Girl Family  have or had  a bad history  in the community or with other  families or with the present boy family. 2.How is the Girl family popular  at present? -Is it a family of Criminals? -Is it a warmonger  family? -Is it a family of witches? _Are they undermining other  families like Pride? -How possible will they accept the boy family and their new son of Law? 3.How is the Boy Family popular? -Is it a "strong" family, meaning  this family  can it withstand all the temptations with the Girl Family? -Is the any harmony  between  the  Boy and Girl F...

Family Strength 2

Young Adults Both Men and Women at this stage  are matured enough to start a family. There are  checks  and balances. 1.A Matured young man, must always visit  the Old Men Meetings which take  place weekly, monthly and yearly. He is expected to contribute positively  in the tribal problems. 2.Moreover,he must show the "extreme" respect to the meetings. 3.He must know his "place" very well. The decisions of the elderly are final. The deviation  is punishable or family expulsion  4.He must not have "bad" record  of not doing his duties at home 5.The Elderly Council  may "ban" him not to attend the council meetings  or to keep quiet  during meetings. 6.He might be instructed to call members of the Council for the meeting with  bare foot and arrange food which will be a forced  donation from his kraal or from his family kraal. The duration  of that punishment will  be decided by the Council. 7.He must respect th...

The Bhacas believe in the family  strength. The family  strength  can be a nightmare  or  a blessing. Family  Strength  There are  many types of extended  families.A Husband may have  a number of wives. There are family  meetings which take place weekly in a small  family  or monthly meetings  and yearly meetings. Life in KwaBhaca

When I checked the state of this blog,  some interesting  facts emerged. The blog was visited by the minority  populations around  the world. In the past posts  I wrote about  this tribe, how did they survived under extremely  hard conditions  of  which all of us could learn. They did have the word Poverty in their vocabulary. They survived  in Eastern Cape  bordered by KZN Province. They had one big river which is diminishing and is called: Mzimvubu River and Mzimvubu means Mzi= House  Mvubu =hippopotamus. Up to now, there  is a debate whether to draw water  to the villages nearby or not. Otherwise, using Water can lorries and vans.Water is freely available  or those  want to more water had to pay  more.90% of this Community  are not working,no skill education  but they are practising farming taught by their  forefathers. However there are skills which  are taught from generation  t...

Do we still have hardworkers

The type of economy  today needs hardworkers, knowledgeable, self motivated, moving towards perfection. Do we still  have such  People? Yes, we still  have them  and they become fewer and fewer. Our century  has produced lesser intellectuals. Why? They are not easily available. It is because  those who could not make it,opted  for short cuts and most of them suppress the intellectuals  and hardworkers  and they recruit  those who  are like them because  they are not a threat. As the time went on,the circle grew which hindered the outside intervention.Thats why  other People remain  poor while others become  richer  and richer. I like the world of technology. Its a question  of you make it or not.The technology  is not a friend  of anyone but to the co-ordinated microchips and put them  in an orderly arrangement  so  that you can  get the desired results. So,the technology...

Bhaca Life 1

This small tribe is found in the Eastern Cape of South Africa. There are lessons which you and me can learn: 1.Strong family Foundation                                Great Economic  Achievers have strong        family  Foundation. This what  the Bhacas have achieved.By the strong  family  Foundation,I mean the Head of the Family gives a clear guidance in the family  with  the aim of uniting  the family.         2.Respect anyone.                                                This tribe has the unwritten  Law that anyone who is young or old should  respect any human being. It is  believed  that it shall  bring a prosperity  now and future. 3.Respect the Land.      ...
